What is biofilm? The term biofilm refers to the layer of microorganisms (bacteria, diatoms, fungi, etc.) that grows on any surface in contact with water or other liquids. Most often, the term is used to indicate bacterial biofilm. Biofilm can grow even in extreme conditions, causing issues in your process that can range from Legionella contamination to

Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion (MIC). How does the sensor work? The ALVIM Biofilm Sensor gives you real- time control over biofilm growth. As shown in the graph, the sensor continuously monitors the electrochemical signal inside your system. When biofilm starts forming, the signal rises - letting you know to take action with a biocide treatment at the right moment. This smart approach ensures cleaning happens only when needed, reducing chemical use, saving costs, and keeping your process safe and efficient.

Advantages of the ALVIM Biofilm Sensor

Biofilm Sensor Applications

• Open Cooling Towers • Cooling Towers • Once-Through Cooling Systems • Power Plants • Legionella Prevention • Food Production • Mineral Water Bottling • Soft Drinks • Water Distribution Networks • Industrial Reverse Osmosis • Reverse Osmosis Desalination • Paper Mills • Biogas Upgrading Plants

ü Discriminates between biofilm and other kinds of deposit / fouling. ü Has a high sensitivity. ü Provides early warning detection (down to 1% of surface covered by microorganisms). ü Helps optimize cleaning (e.g., CIP) treatments.

ü Virtually maintenance free instrument. ü Enables real-time biofilm monitoring.
